Using it on Discord

How members submit suggestions and how votes are counted.

Members do not use a slash command for this flow. They post in the configured suggestion channel. The bot ignores bot messages, messages outside the configured channel, and messages that contain neither text nor an image attachment. For valid submissions, it deletes the original message and creates a card titled “💡 New Suggestion”.

The card shows the author mention, the suggestion text, an optional image gallery when the first attachment is an image, and a live vote bar. The stored title is the first 100 characters of the message, or Image suggestion for image-only submissions. A short reference code is also derived from the last six characters of the suggestion ID for dashboard display.

Voting uses two Discord buttons with custom IDs in the form suggest_vote:up:<suggestionId> and suggest_vote:down:<suggestionId>. A first click records the vote. Clicking the same direction again removes it. Clicking the opposite direction switches the vote and updates both counters. The member receives an ephemeral confirmation such as “Upvoted!”, “Switched to downvote!”, or “Your vote was removed.”

On every vote, the bot edits the original Components v2 card in place and publishes a dashboard stream event. The dashboard SuggestionCard prefers the streamed state over the server snapshot and marks live values with a small “live” indicator.

Reviewing a suggestion

  1. 1

    On Discord

Staff press ✅ Approve or ❌ Reject under the card. A modal asks for an optional note; submit, and the card re-renders with the verdict, reviewer and note. Vote buttons are disabled from then on.

  2. 2

    On the dashboard

Open /dashboard/<guildId>/suggestions, optionally click the note icon to add a message for the author, then Approve or Reject. The card shows Queued until the bot applies it (within ~5 seconds) and confirms over the live stream.

  3. 3

    What the author sees

A DM with the verdict, a quote of their suggestion and your note (if DMs are open). Nothing else changes for them.

Note

Reviews are final and race-safe: if two staff members click at the same moment, only the first wins and the second sees “already reviewed”.
