Troubleshooting
Common moderation failures and fixes.
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Cannot kick/ban/timeout | Target is the server owner, the bot itself, the moderator themself for ban, or has a role equal/higher than PaulCLI. | Move the bot role higher and avoid protected targets. The server owner cannot be moderated by these commands. |
| Dashboard action stays missing from cases | The queue row may not have been processed yet or failed. | Wait at least 5 seconds; failed rows store the error in PendingBotAction.error. |
| Timeout fails from dashboard | Duration is under 60 seconds or over Discord's 28-day maximum. | Use one of the dashboard duration choices. |
| Purge deletes fewer messages than requested | Pinned messages and messages older than 14 days are skipped before bulk delete. | Run a smaller purge on recent messages or remove pins manually if appropriate. |
| Temp-ban did not lift exactly on time | The sweep runs every 60 seconds and only when the bot is in the guild and can remove the ban. | Wait for the next sweep and verify Ban Members permission. Manual unbans are detected and recorded to stop repeated checks. |
Owner and hierarchy gotchas
Queued dashboard actions check only what the bot can execute. A dashboard user with access can still create a queued action that later fails because Discord hierarchy or permissions block the bot.
