Using it on Discord
What happens when a member triggers AutoMod.
Members do not invoke AutoMod directly. It runs automatically when a non-bot member sends a message. The bot checks spam first, then links, caps, and bad words. If a rule triggers, the bot emits an internal automod workflow event and then enforces the configured action.
Every action starts by deleting the offending message. If deletion fails, the bot logs a warning but still attempts the configured action. For DELETE, the bot sends a short notice in the channel mentioning the member with an embed that says “AutoMod • Your message was removed” and includes the reason. The notice is deleted after 6 seconds.
For WARN, the same removal notice is sent to the member by DM. For TIMEOUT, the member receives a DM saying they were timed out, with the reason and duration rounded to minutes. KICK and BAN also DM the member before performing the action, because Discord may prevent DMs after they leave.
Examples
With anti-spam default values, the 6th message inside 5 seconds triggers. With caps at 70%, THIS IS VERY LOUD can trigger, but OK cannot because it has fewer than 8 letters.
